Abstract The present study was concerned mainly with the chemical evaluation, bioevaluation and chemopreventive effect of basil, marjoram and thyme essential oils. The obtained results have been classified into three parts The obtained results from part one could be summarized in the following: 1- The chemical composition of basil, marjoram and thyme essential oils were investigated with GC-MS, The oil of Thyme is particularly rich in p-cymene (43.19%), linalool (4.677%), thymol (44.332%) and carvacrol (0.448%). Basil oil contains linalool (42.41%), 2-piperitone (12.21%) and eugenol (11.00%) as main constituents while γ-terpinene (12.02%), α-terpinene (10.46%), sabinene (12.59%), terpinen-4-ol (10.62%), β- phellandrene (11.19%) and di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (17.40%) are the major components of Marjoram oil. |
