Abstract

The variations of stiffness and mass are considerable factors that
affect the seismic response of reinforced concrete structures.
Seismic codes provisions restrict the use of equivalent static
force method for estimating earthquake loads to regular buildings.
These codes provide limited values for variations in stiffness and
mass beyond which dynamic analysis is required. The variation of
infill panels is another factor that affects significantly the seismic
response of reinforced concrete structures. This factor is not taken
into consideration in equivalent static method.
The effect of variation of stiffness, mass and infill panels on
...- frame-type reinforced concrete buildings will be investigated using a
non-linear dynamic analysis program. The obtained results will be
compared with results from the equivalent static linear method
recommended by different codes. A parametric study of this
<,
research consists of nine groups of infill two-dimensional frames
with variable heights for each group. Each group consists of three
frames will be studied and analyzed under the effect of different
earthquake records.
The variable of the first three groups will be the irregularities of
stiffness by changing the position of the columns of the frame at
different stories. The variable of the second three groups will be the irregularities of mass by considering an increase in mass at
specific stories due to variations in function/use. The variable of the third three groups will be the locations of infill panels.
from the results obtained from the parametric study of the
variation of mass, stiffness and infill panels some conclusions
and recommendations will be obtained.
