Abstract The aim of this work is to gain information on the genesis and formation of soils north of Wadi El-Natrum on the basis of their chemical and mineralogical properties. Results obtained reveal that the origin of sediments occupying the studied area is either alluvial, aeolian or even a mixture of both. Wind and water are shown to be of paramount importance in the formation of soil in such area. The soils of the area under investigation are developed from more than one parent material. The clay minerals in the studied area are dominated by the palygorskite and smectite. |
