Abstract

CCL4 is used as a model substance to induce liver cirrhosis via formation of CCL3 radical which binds to cellular molecules and imparis crucial cellular processes, or forms CCL3OO redical which initiates a chain reaction of lipid peroxidation leading to cell damage. There is also a strong correlation between irreversile association with tissue components and carbon tetrachloride toxicity. CCL4 intoxication may also lead to hypomethylation of cellular components; leading to inhibition of protein synthesis and inhibition of lipoprotein secretion. CCl4 also activates TNF-alpha, NO, and TGF-alpha and -beta in the cell and it can increase cytosolic concentration of Ca²+ in hepatocytes.
from the previous results, it has been concluded that L-carnitine and coenzyme Q10 have a pronounced prophylactic effect against liver damage induced by halogenated alkanes such as carbon tetrachloride. It can be said that the combination of L-carnitine and CoQ10 is recommended for protecting the liver from CCl4 hazards.
