Abstract

The work in this thesis is directed to make use of novel sorbentsprepared from agro-residue (Rise Husk, RH) in separation and recoveryof non-radioactive analogous (Zn+2 and Cd+2) from waste constituentswhich is similar to that waste of Egypt’s Cyclotron radioisotopesproduction units (67Ga and IIIIn), respectively. This thesis is divided intofour main chapters:Introduction: This chapter gives a literature survey on the importance ofradioisotopes for medical applications, the properties that take intoconsideration in choice of these isotopes and the kinds of radioisotopesproduced in different types of cyclotrons. The structure of Egypt’sCyclotron and target systems for production of ( 67Ga and IIIIn)radioisotopes were described in details. The most important techniquesthat are used in the recovery process such as: solvent extraction and ionexchanger were summarized. Moreover, adsorption was discussed mdetails. In this concern, the survey includes the causes and types ofadsorption, factors influencing adsorption process (e.g. equilibrium time, metal type, adsorbent weight, initial concentration, surface loading, sorbent type and pH) adsorption isotherms, contacting systems and modesof operations. In addition to the new materials used in manufacturing ofactivated carbons as wen as the surface chemistry of the producedactivated carbons.
