Abstract
The present study was conducted in E.N.T. Department, Assiut University Hospital on 51 patients [4] males, 10 females with SCCHN including 34 with laryngeal SCC and 17 with pharyngeal SCC. The study also included 22 patients with non-malignant lesions in the head and neck region [13 males, 9 females] comprising 7 cases with inflammatory lesions [tonsillitis, laryngitis, rhinitis], 6 cases with non-inflammatory lesions [laryngeal polyp, papilloma, benign salivary gland tumour] besides 9 cases with premalignant lesions [plummer-Vinson syndrome]. The study also included 18 completely healthy control individuals [14 males, 4 females] who were age comparable to patients, representing the control group.
