Abstract Treatment of patient with torn anterior cruciate ligament is one of the most controversial problems confronting the orthopaedic surgeon. Once the decision has been made to surgically stabilize the knee , even more controversy exists over the type of surgical repair to be used. Surgical procedures designed to stabilize the knee include combination of intra-articular and extra-articular procedures . The ideal procedure should provide adequate tissue for strong repair ,allow early range of motion , control both anterior and posterior excursion of the knee , and provide rotatory stability .In addition should provide long term stability to the knee with minimal stretching of the repaired tissues over time. |
