المستخلص Automatic quality monitoring and inspection devices, used to observe the quality of in-process workpieces in an automated manufacturing system are essential for effective production. The quality monitoring devices are used to determine the acceptance or rejection of a workpiece or a specific production lot before workpieces are fed into the next process. They are also used to monitor the positions of fixtures and the conditions of cutting tools. In addition, they can be integrated into a feedback control system to influence the manufacturing processes directly. There are many automated inspection and measurement systems currently available in industry such as automatic gagging and sorting, computersupported coordinate measuring systems, and automated visual inspection systems. Among them, automated visual inspection systems are the noncontact systems; and they are among the most versatile inspection systems as well. These visual systems also have a great potential for the future development of automated quality control systems. Visual inspection is one of the hardest industrial tasks to be automated, because it requires perception and judgment qualities of the human eye-brain system. |
