Abstract In this study, Wadi EI-Meleiha which lies Western Sinai is taken as an experimental basin to apply the capabilities of one of the most famous techniques in simulating the rainfall-runoff relation. The model is used to solve the hydrologic response of Wadi EI-Meleiha that represents similar basins in Egypt. The main objectives of this study are: (I) to apply the capabilities of the various methods involved in HEC-HMS package for predicting surface runoff hydrographs, (2) to apply many approaches that may be used to determine the hydrologic parameters for ungaged basins, (3) to construct a hydrologic model to be used in simulating the rainfallrunoff relationship in Wadi EI-Meleiha, (4) to determine an appropriate design storm using the available historical rainfall data and apply it to the constructed model to get the design volumes and discharges at many sites throughout the watershed. It appears through the analysis that the combination of a rainfall excess estimating method with a unit hydrograph method has a significant effect on the accuracy of the simulation. Analysis of mean errors indicates that there is no significant difference in accuracy of modeled hydrographs using the three methods of estimating rainfall excess (Initial and Constant loss method, SCS method and Lag method) with Clark Unit Hydrograph. Each of the three methods gives high accurate results with the SCS dimensionless unit hydrograph (UH). The SCS loss method gives good results only when applied the SCS dimensionless UH.
