Abstract Cardiac computed tomography (CT) for calcium scoring is a convenient and noninvasive way of evaluating the coronary arteries. Calcium scoring takes little time and causes no pain. The exam does not require injection of contrast material and therefore avoids its possible side effects. Coronary artery calcification is an important predictive marker of ischemic coronary disease. This study clearly confirms the incremental value of coronary artery calcium scoring for risk assessment of asymptomatic individuals with risk factors for coronary artery disease Thus, the available data demonstrate that the coronary artery calcium scoring permits identification of high-risk asymptomatic individuals and provides incremental information over traditional risk factors. |
