Abstract

The experiments were carried during 2004/2005 and 2005/2006 seasons at the Experimental Farm of Desert Research Center, Ras Suder region, South Sinai Governorate, on cauliflower plants cvs. Toobi and Late Paris. This work aimed to study the effect of ridge height (25 and 50cm) and magnetite levels (0, 50, 100, 150 and 200 kg/fed) on growth and yield of cauliflower.
This study included two experiments; each experiment was devoted for one cultivar. In both experiments, the experimental design was split plot design. Data were recorded on vegetative growth, yield and curd characters.
The obtained results indicated that growing cauliflower plants cvs Toobi and Late Paris on the high ridge affected positively the vegetative growth, total yield and curd characters as well as nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium and iron contents in the leaves and curds, but reduced sodium, chloride, sulphur and magnesium, in the leaves and curds, compared to those grown on the low ridge height.
Results also indicated that increasing magnetite levels led to increasing vegetative growth and chemical characteristics, i.e., nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium and iron in leaves and curds. However, sodium, chloride, sulphur and magnesium in leaves and curds decreased with increasing magnetite levels.
Both cultivars produced the highest yield when200 kg magnetite/fed were added for plants grown on the high ridge.
