Abstract The present study was carried out on 77 breast cancer patients with various stages of the diseases. They consisted of 20 premenopausal, 51 postmenopausal women and six men. Serum levels of oestradiol-17 B (E2), testosterone (T), prolactin (prl), luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicule stimulating hormone (fsh)(, were determind for all cases using the specific and sensitive radioimmunoassays (RIA). Progesterone (P) condentrations were determined in the serum samples taken on the 24th days (luteal phase) of the menstrual cycles in the 20 menstruating patients and a level of 3 ng/ml. serum or m,ore was taken as an indication for ovulation. Accordingly, these patients were devided into two subgroups; those with ovulatory cycles (15 patients() and those with anovulatory cycles (5 patients). More than 66% of the patients were classified as advanced (stage III or more according to manchester’s clinical staging system) at the time of sampling. 95-100% of the cases have had duct carcinoma (Who histological classification of breast tumours). |
