Abstract
500 cases of different types of hernias were the material of our work. A short historical note was put beside the review of the literature on the subject. A detailed clinical, operative and histological study was done. The relation of inguinal hernia to age, weight, height, occupation, blood group length of the spermatic cord and size of the testicle was explained. The operative findings as regards the thickness of the sac and actual length of the inguinal canal measured during operation was discussed.
The histological structure of the normal peritoneum of the anterior abdominal wall was described for the first time. The relation between the defective structure of the peritoneum and the different types of hernias was also discussed. Also the relation between the defects in structure of the other parietes of the abdomen such as the fascia transversalis, conjoined tendon, rectus sheath and skin and the different types of hernias was toutched.
The new operation using the musculo fasical grafts, its steps, indications and efficiency was described.
