Abstract

Samples of reactive LNs and non- neoplastic spleen were included to establish the normal expression pattern for p 27 protein . within the GCs the dark zone and mitotic cells were negative while the light zone of centricities had strong staining in most of cells . In benign . GCs the cenroblasts were typically negative corresponding to the dark and light areas of follicles .
In HL all Hodgkin and RS cells were negative for p 27 protein , Most reactive cells in the surrounding background exhibited an intense reactivity.
In NHLs ( 11 cases ) with low mitotic activity including FL grade 1 , SLL, lymphplasmacytic lymphoma and NMZL displayed strong p27 nuclear immunostaining while occasionally large cells were p27 negative . Some medium sized neoplastic cells showed moderate positivisty , whereas, in ( 13 cases ) with high mitotic activity cases including FL grade II and III DlBCL de novo and on top of follicular lymphoma , BL and anaplastic . large T- cell lymphoma predominately composed of large neoplastic cells were p27 negative in most of cases . Reactive lymphocytes accompanying the large cells were positive
Prognostic factors have been shown to predict a poor survival rate in the present study are : number of patients with B-symptoms , advanced Ann Arbor stage , presence of more than one extra nodal sites and elevated LDH serum level.
