Abstract Lens removal creates a population of pseudophakic presbyopes, many of them may prefer spectacle independence. Surgical treatment concepts and methods for presbyopic refractive surgery are relatively new including monovision which may be suitable for pseudophakic presbyopes. Monovision is prevalent among phakic contact lens population but still not readily adopted to LO.L., perhaps due to uncertainty in predicting which patient will accept monovision correction. This study included 50 patients with bilateral cataract and good visual potential in both eyes randomly divided in two groups, the first group (25) patients their cataract was extracted using phacoemulsification (phaco.) while the other group (25) patients their cataract was extracted using extra capsular cataract extraction (E. C. Cli.). The aim of this study was to evaluate monovision as a method of presbyopic correction after sequential posterior chamber intraocular lens (P. Ch. LO.L.) implantation in patients with bilateral cataract extraction where the dominant eye is corrected for distance vision and the non dominant eye is corrected for near vision. There was statistically significant difference between the results in both groups with better results in phaco. group. This may be due to minimal surgical induced astigmatism. |
