Abstract

Colchicine is usually used in treatment of gout , but it is found that colchicine decreases the growth of intimal cells lining the blood vessels, after balloon angioplasty, and also has an effect on leucocytic VEGF. This role of colchicines is through its effect on microtubules in SMCs lining the blood vessele wall , these microtubules have a role in many cell functions as regulation of signals from and to the cell nucleus and separation of chromosomes during mitosis. It is found that high dose of colchicines used , it causes depolarization of microtubules. When the intima of the blood vessele is damaged, leucocytes migrate to the damaged surface through interaction between the receptors on the surface of leucucytes and adhesion molecules on the damaged surface through signals controlled by microtubules.
