Abstract
Tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by mycobacterium tuberculosis. It is one of the most serious public health problems worldwide. It is estimated that 400.000 new cases occur in the industrialized world each year. In the under developed world, the incidence is at least 8 million case per year. The transmission is almost exclusively by aerosolization of contaminated respiratory secretions. The pathogenesis of tuberculosis involves four considerations, the virulence of M. tuberculosis, the role of induced hypersensitivity, the role of immunity or resistance and the genesis of the granulomalous pattern of reaction so characteristic of tuberculosis.
