Abstract Tinea capitis is a significant public health problem, particularly in children of primary schools. It is one of the most prevalent dermatomycosis in Egypt. It can be considered as a sociomedical problem with some economic implications. Fes epidemiolgical surveys were carried out to determine the prevalence of tinea capitis in schools in Egypt particularly in ”Upper Egypt”. So it is a pressing necessity to conduct such study in primary schools in Assiut City. A cross-sectional community-based survey was designed: * To determine the prevalence of tinea capitis in primary schools in Assiut City. * To study the effect of some socio-demographic and environmental factors related to the family and schools on the affection of students by tinea capitis. * To identify pathogens responsible for tinea capitis. The research was carried out in 10 primary schools in Assiut City, 8 public and 2 private schools. The sampling process included total coverage of the 10 schools applying systematic random sample. The field work was conducted during, February, March, and April 1999. |
