Abstract

Neurogenic influence on the heart is a newly well-known phenomenon with pathological proof of myocytolysis and electrophysiological proof of cardiac conduction abnormalities(2).
Biochemical markers especially troponins have recognized to play a successful role in diagnosis , risk stratification, prognostic values and guidance of treatement for cardiac complications of cerebral stroke(4).
Aim of the work:
To investigate the predictive value of cardiac troponin T in assessing myocardial injury and cardiac dysfunction in different types of stroke (Ischemic and hemorrhagic) and its relationship to stroke size and volume
Subject and Methods:
Our study is a prospective case series study, 60 patients were studied, the sample was composed of 35 men and 25 women, with a median age of 60.25±8.56 years, all patients were subjected to careful history analysis including history of risk factors (hypertension, smoking, diabetes mellitus, dyslipedemia and full clinical assessment, all patients underwent a resting ECG, echocardiographic evaluation to diagnose myocardial dysfunction by evidence of segmental wall motion abnormalities .Laboratory investigations in the form of troponin T assay by blood sample collected immediately after hospital admission, 12 h later and after 24hs.
