Abstract In this thesis, the effect of kitamine, pancuronium and their combination on the ECG and electrolyte balance of guinea pigs and also on the isolated perfused rabbit’s heart were investigated.Intravenous injection of ketamine was found toproduce bradycardia accompanied by prolongation of both P-R and Q-T intervals in guinea pigs. Also, it decreased serum K level and increased the cardiac tissue cntent of ca... Pancuronium , on the other hand , produced no significant changes in the ECG of guinea pigs. However, it elevated serum Na. and ca.. and cardiac tissue content of K. and reduced serum K. level and cardiac tissue content of Na. and Ca... The combined administration of ketamine and pancuronium produced bradycardia of shorter duration than that observed with ketamine alone. They increased the cardiac tissue content of ca... In conclusion , ketamine was able to produce bradycardia following intravenous injection in guinea pigs. The development of bradycardia was not correlated with the increase in cardiactissue content of calsium. Pancuronium attenuated the bradycardia produced by ketamine in guinea pigs. Futhermore, it also attenuated the negative chronotropic effect of ketamine on the isolated perfused rabbit’s heart. However, Pancuronium potentiated the negative inotropic effect of ketamine on the isolated perfused rabbit’s heart. |
