Abstract

This study was done to clarify the role of TNFa and ET -: 1 in neonatal sepsis. The study was carried out on 69 newborns with septicemia 34 full term and 35 preterm) comparing them with a control group of 17 healthy newborns (8 full term and 9 preterm). Neonates with sepsis were further classified into Z groups: -l) Group of septicemia without shock. -2) Group of septicemia complicatd with septic shock. All septic newborns were subjected to the following: -A) full clinical history including: -i) Material obstetric history. -ii) Birth history. -B) full clinical assessment including: -i) Gestational age assessment. (ii) Clinical diagnosis of sepsis (symptoms and signs suggestive of sepsis- C) Investigations to prove presence of sepsis including: (i) Complete blood picture. (ii) C-reactive protein. (iii) Arterial blood gases. (iv) Blood culture.
