Abstract Human atherosclerosis has been studied ~?or over 100 years. It is among the most serious and costly health problems in industrialized nations- Atherosclerosis and its complications are still considered the main cause of death in many countries. The field of research in atherosclerosis has changed dramatically within the last decade. The develop¬ment of cell biology and experimental histopathological techniques provided tools that added to new diagnostic approaches, intervention and prevention of such serious lesions. Prevention of atherosclerosis by dietary modification would be an effective and economic measure in large populat¬ions rather than costly treatment with drugs and modern medical equipments. Thus, the aim of this work has been to study the histological, histochemical and electron microscopical changes in the wall of aorta and coronary arteries after the use of atherogenic diet, and the effects of some dietary itemes on atherosclerosis in rabbits. |
