Abstract
Adolescent is a difficult and a dangerous period of transition from childhood to adulthood that roughly corresponds to the second decade of life so, health promotion and health protection life style have a significant role in this period of adolescents life. The aim of the work was to assess the health promoting and protecting life style behavior among secondary school girls at Zagazig City Sharkia Government rate. A descriptive cross sectional design was used in the first part of the study to assess the knowledge of students about health promoting and protecting life style behavior. A designed comprehensive health educational program including message about ”Nutrition, personal hygiene, exercise, smoking and addiction mental and social health, was developed by the researcher. The total sample size was 295 students from General Secondary School of _ Girls. The study revealed that only one third of the studied sample had correct and complete answers as regards: nutrition, hygiene, exercises smoking, addiction and intellectual health. However, they did not have enough knowledge about smoking and its hazards on persons. The present study recommended that, health education of secondary school girls about healthful life style should be integrated in their curriculum. Nurses and medical staff must play a significant role in screening, teaching and guidaning of adolescents about health. Provision of a hot line services to be available for adolescence for counseling about any psychological troubles is mandatory.
