Abstract Acute leukemia and non Hodgkin’s lymphoma (NHL) are among the common malignant diseases of children. Recent advances have raised hope that all acute leukemias and in particular (ALL) may become curable disease. Tumor markers are well accepted parameters for the diagnosis and follow up of malignancies including ALL and NHL. Most tumor-related substances described to date unfortunately, are not always present in patients with neoplasia and positive values are not tumorspecific. Also, most currently used markers are limited to selected cell types, and additional markers are needed for other forms of human cancer. IOncreased serum glycoproteins e.g. total sialic acid and carcino emberyonic antigen (CEA), decreased ES. (sum of the disulfide bonds of IgG1 and free thiol groups of IgG2 of serum immunoglobulin IgG) and alteration in hexose metabolism as hexokinases (with mannose or glucpse substrates) mannose phosphate isomerase and glucose phosphate isomerase, all have been mentioned as parameters that may be useful in the study of cases of ALL & NHL. The present study was carried out on 42 pediateric patients classified into 2 groups. |
