Abstract

Breast cancer remains the major cancer causing mortality among the female population worldwide; despite of the great improvement of the methods of detection and lines of management the mortality rate is still high.
Some women are more prone to acquire cancer breast with aggressive course than others as these women; usually having young age at diagnosis and strong family history. These women were found to be more vulnerable to carry the BRCA-1 gene mutations.
The current study was designed to establish the relationship between BRCA-1 gene mutations, C-erbB2 overexpression, telomerase activity; and the different stages of cancer breast.
Our study compromised fifty five females; divided into:
* Thirty five cancer cases diagnosed as primary breast cancer with varying stages, they were randomly selected not according to their family history, and none were known to be genetically related.
* Twenty females as control having breast lumpectomy or excision biopsy for other causes than malignancy.
All cases and controls were subjected to a thorough clinical examination together with a local examination to identify the TNM staging of the cases. Set of routine laboratory investigations was performed to assess the renal and liver functions.
