Abstract

Recent results from multiple investigations indicate that several minimally invasive techniques including RF ablation, microwave ablation, laser ablation, cryotherapy, ethanol ablation and chemoembolization are very effective in treating hepatocellular carcinoma. The present study was planned to evaluate the efficacy of RF ablation, ethanol ablation and chemotherapy in the treatment ofHCC in cirrhotic patients.
This study included 50 patients’ 29 males and 21 females were classified into 3 groups according to the method of treatment of the tumour:
Group I (20 patients) treated with radiofrequency ablation. Group II (20 patients) treated with alcohol injection. Group 1II (10 patients) treated with chemotherapy.
All patients were subjected to the following:
I -Full history taking.
2-Complete physical examination. 3-Routine laboratory tests including:
A-Complete blood count. B-Liver function tests. C-Renal function tests. D-Serum electrolytes. E-Random blood sugar
f- Erythrocyte sedimentation rate. I-ECG and blood type and match. 4-Speciallaboratory investigations:
-Serum tumor markers as alpha feto proteins (AFP)
-HBsAg and HCVab
5-Electrocardiography ( ECG ). 6-Endoscopic grading of esophageal varices 7-Radiological evaluation including;
• Plain chest x-ray
• Abdominal ultrasonography examination.
• Abdominal computed tomography (CT scan) examination.
• Total body bone scan.
