Abstract Amniotic membrane, the innermost layer of the fetal membranes, has been used as a surgical material since 1940’s. In the field of ophthalmology it was originally used to treat conjunctival defects. Recently, amniotic membrane has been Widly used in occular surface reconstruction to induce rapid epithelial healing with more favorable visual and refractive outcomes and lower corneal haze after surgery. The objective of our study was to highlight the importance of amniotic membrane and its role in different ophthalmic disorders, with special concern to its role in corneal wound healing. |
