Abstract
Interest in the quality of health services has increased substantially in recent years. Ef forts to develop feasible and acceptable methods to assess and assure good quality care and services have intensi Hed. Traditionally. . providers assess or measure performance and then assure that it conforms to standards. This approach may not be broad enough to allow modern health care organizations to provide positive optimum care. As a result. a new more approach called total qual i ty managemen t is emerging in heal th care. This concept suggest~ that heal th care quali ty can most ef fectively be improved by focusing on all key activities of the organization. including direct care. management. and support services. Performance indicators are state-of-the-art assessment tools that offer valid and useful information concerning organization performance. The objectives of the present study were to develop a set of clinical indicators for evaluation of quali ty of urosurgical care in Health Insurance Hospi tals in Alexandria and to test the reliability and validity of the developed set of indicators.
