Abstract

This in-vitro study had been conducted on mesiobuccal canals of seventy-two freshly extracted human mandibular molars of average curvature 20° - 30°. The canals were instrumented using a double-flare technique either to master apical file # 35 or master apical file # 20.
They were obturated either using Resilon / Epiphany obturation system which is a thermoplastic synthetic polymer-based root canal filling material based on polymers of polyester, contains bioactive glass and radiopaque fillers or Gutta Percha / Grossman’s sealer with either lateral or vertical condensation techniques.
After obturation, roots were covered by two layers of nail polish and sticky wax except for the apical one millimeter. The roots were immersed in India ink for one week, washed, decalcified using 5 % trichloroacetic acid for three weeks, dehydrated in ethyl alcohol of 50 %, 70 %, 90 %, and 100% for four hours each. After dehydration roots were cleared using Xylol for five hours, and rendered transparent using Methyl Salicylate. The transparent roots were examined under the stereomicroscope and the linear dye penetration was measured by calibrated eye piece for the most coronal penetration of the dye.
