Abstract Ceramics are playing an increasingly important role in restorative dentistry. In many instanced, the need for conventional crowns or shortlasting composite restorations has been eliminated by laminate veneers that are conservative alternatives well within the capabilities of the average dentist and technician. While procedures are technique sensitive, ceramic veneers provide a highly esthetic restoration requriring minimal tooth destruction and periodontal involvement. Unfortunatly , ceramics suffer from brittle fracture which is generally attributed to the rapid uninterrupted propagation of cracks through the bulk of the ceramic usually beginning at a flaw or defect in the material . |
