Abstract INTRODUCTION Mostof the Egyptian land in a is mere desert and only 3% is cultivated from the total acreage of the country which is about 240 million freddans.the population density per fedden in agricultural land is one of the highest density in the whole world. Therefore, we need urgently to add new reclaimed areas to the cultivated lands. Sandy soils are well known as to infertile and of low water retention. However, it could be productive as any other soils, if the right soil management practices were followed; i.e. addition of soil conditioners and use of the most appropriste water management which minimizes any water losses. At present, field water requirements for crop production are larger than the actual plant water consumption. Thus, water saving is becoming a decisive factor for agricultural expansion. The perfect water policy is to use all waters from all resources and to avoid any losses to increase the available good quality water to maximum. |
