Abstract In tbis research the eff ect of wi.nd on the Outer !’ surfac.es of bigh cooling towers was studied and its stability under too variation of wind ve Loci,ty~ Tl~ tests ,:!,ere carried out using an open jet wind tunnel which v:as de ai.gned for this purpose at the Flmd Mechanics Labor-at.o ry t Faculty of Engi.i.’leerip-{S,Ain Shams Univers.ity~ Four Sffiall scale cooling tower models, which are largely used in thermr?’.:_power stations and industrial plants, were designed. :: 1- To obtain the pre ssure distribution at different sections for each tower at different wind ve Loci,tie s and at different gap widt:2s 0 2- To co·::;ain the ve Loci.tiy profile s round the cooling tiower s , 3- Flew visuaJj_zation around t~ coo Li.ng tower body using the tuft te chn.i.que:; The ::>·2sults of this research were: a) .An expression f’o.r the velocity profile s around the cooling tower was deduced b) An expression which correlate 3 the flow separation point along the tower surface and its hyperbolic formula! e) The rate of change of momentumflux distribution along the the tower surface was plotted~ It was finally concluded that the gap width has no effect on the flow cu t sd.de the cooling tower, although 1t affects the flow inside the tower. |
