Abstract Dentifrices are preparations intended for use with a toothbrush for the purpose of cleansing the accessible surfaces of the teeth. Generally dentifrices may be divided into two main categories; cleansing dentifrices, which only cleanse and polish the teeth and therapeutic dentifrices, which not only cleanse and polish the teeth, but also contain drugs or chemical intended to decrease the incidence or severity of dental caries, periodontal disease, and hypersensitive dentine. The interest in the therapeutic value of natural extracts is renewed in the last years, in order to avoid the side effects of chemicals and synthetic materials. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of whey protein dentifrices in controlling the formation of the dental plaque and its effect on the oral bacteria. The study included 40 human subjects: 25 patients free of any systemic disease & 15 patients with familial diabetes mellitus diagnosed as having chronic gingivitis were participated in this study. The study was a double blinded . – 10 healthy subjects with no systemic diseases who used the toothpaste preparation. |
