Abstract
The liver occupies a unique position in carbohydrate homeoataaia. Many hormones interplay to control glucose homeoataaia. The present work aimed at; atuding of the oral glucose tolerance teat in association with total aerum bilirubin, SGPT and alkaline phosphatase as liver function tests to evaluate and explain glucose intolerance in patients with schistosomal liver fibrosis and to correlate them with normal adults.
This work was carried out on two groups :-Group I ;
Ten males middle aged patients with schistoaomal hepatic fibroaia one of them was in the aacitic stage and the other nine were non aacitic.
Group II :
Ten middle aged, healthy, ambulatory, non obese, male subjects. Five patients were admitted to Alexandria University Hospital and the other five from the outpatient clinic of Alexandria University Hoapaital.
The two groups had no family history of diabetes, Factors causing glucose intolerance as infections, surgery and injury were avoided in the investigated patients. A full history taking and clinical examination were done for all cases including haematemesia, meleria, bleeding
