Abstract

Infection is one of the major post-transplant complication that affect transplant outcome including morbidity, hospital stay and mortality
In the last few years there was great improvement in knowledge about: recognition, methods of transmission, methods of diagnosis of most microbial post-transplant infection and consequently these reflected upon improvement in their prevention, cure and preemptive treatment of most of them that led to improved graft and patient survival.
This essay was carried out to declare some important infectious syndromes in post renal transplantation and stress upon using available modalities to reach the proper diagnosis
Firstly: History taking is the most important primary issue to start our work up. History taking should include: pretransplant, transplant, Post-transplant histories. Pretransplant history include: Both donor and recipient history of chronic infectious disease, vaccination, chronic diseases that affect general health like diabetes mellitus as well as DR matching
Post transplant history: include timing of infection, symptoms of system affection, immunosuppressive drug regimen, rejection episodes and renal outcome.
Secondly: Clinical examination in systematic and meticulous manner is very helpful. But we should put in our mind that infection had atypical presentation in immunosuppressed individual.
