Abstract Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) promises to be the ultimate internetworking technology. Its high bandwidth uniform switching can transfer Video, Audio and text generated by a wide variety of applications, at higher speed than available today. Because of high speed and wide application range.; problems facing ATM is different from problems that faced conventional data networks. Congestion is one of the major concerns facing implementation of ATM Switches as it can cause degradation of the Quality of Services provided by the application. Congestion control can be done by many ways and on di fferent layers of networking. examples are proper assignment of resources(buffer and bandwidth), tuning the service Scheme, policing sources that violate their declared traffic behavior . In this thesis we try to control the congestion by proper design and tuning of buffering and service scheme. A simulation Program was developed to enable LIS to simulate different buffering and service schemes . The simulation results were used to lind how different parameters affect both Quality of Service ( QoS) and the Utilization of A™resources. the results were used to set the rules and requirements of the control scheme. The results expressed the need for system capable of finding the right control parameters that will provide the required and only the required QoS. We proposed the use of an intelligent technique to implement this controller the requirements for that controller were stated and an implementation was proposed . The design was tested and enhanced to ensure its compliance to the requirements . |
