Abstract

During the last years, the incidence of primary hepatic tumours was increased among Egyptians. This rise in the incidence may reflect a true increase in the number of cases or it may be due to improved diagnostic facilities.
The present work was done to study the value of detection of anti-p53 antibody in diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma.
Sixty patients and twenty healthy subjects were included in this study. Patients were selected from these attending the inpatients and outpatients clinics at the Liver Institute and Menoufiya University Hospital.
The patients and healthy subjects were classified into fiur groups:
• Group 1: Twenty patients with hepatocellular carcinoma including 17 males and 3 females. Their age ranged from 35-66 years.
• Group II: Twenty patients with liver cirrhosis including 18 males and 2 females. Their age ranged from 30-77 years.
• Group III: Twenty patients with non-hepatic malignancy including 14 males and 6 females. Their age ranged from 32-80 years.
• Group IV: Twenty healthy persons with normal liver including 15 males and 5 females. Their age ranged from 38-75 years.
