Abstract In the present study, 500 patients attending the out patient clinics of Menoufiya University Hospital and from other villages in Menoutlya Govcrnoratc were included and investigated for S.stercoralis infection and other parasilic infections. They represented both sexes (males 290& females 210) suffering from intermittent diarrhoea,’abdominal colics and anorexia in different age groups (1 month to above 50 years). They were subjected to history taking, and laboratory investigation by different methods of diagnosis as urine and stool examination . Soil samples were collected randomly from different areas in the Govcrnorate to detect S. stercoralis larvae in the soil which is source of infection. , S.sfercoralis infection remains a health problem specially because the detection of Strongyloides larvae in routine copro-diagnosis is very difficult. ’there fore, in the present study, different methods were used for proper detection and acurate diagnosis. The results of the present study showed that:- 1- The overall rate of parasitic infections was 63.8% and that of S.sfercoralis infection was 4.8%. 2- The most prevalent parasitic infection was the protozoal infection (Enlamoeba histolytica cysts) (19.8%) that were found to be more common than helminthic infections. |
