Abstract This study was carried on 50 eyes of forty four patients collected randomly from the patients admitted to the Ophthalmic Inpatient Department of Menoufiya University Hospital in the period from first of May 1994 to the end of October 1994. The eyes were divided into two groups each included 25 eyes. The anaesthetic solution used was a mixture of lidocaine 2% and bupivacaine 0.5% without hyaluronidase. In the retrobulbar group anaesthesia was carried on using retrobulbar technique together with OBrein facial nerve block. The injections were carried on using 31.5 mm (1.25 inch) 23 gauge, sharp tipped disposable needle which was inserted inferotemporally at the junction of outer third and inner two thirds of the inferior orbital margin. After penetrating the orbital septum and passing the equatorial region of the globe, it was directed upwards towards the apex of the orbit while asking the patient to keep his eyes straight forwards. |
