Abstract Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a cronic, systemic immunologically mediated disease of unknown etiology. Production of a number of pathogenic autoantibodies and immune complexes and an inability to suppress or clear them are the underlying abnormalities in SLE. The presence of antiphospholipid antibodies in patients with arterial or venous thrombosis or pregnancy morbidity comprises the antiphospholipid antibody syndrome. This syndrome is referred to as primary APS when it occurs alone and secondary APS when it occurs in association with other conditions, such as systemic lupus erythematosus . The present study involved sixty subjects (60 females) suffering from systemic lupus erythematosus; diagnosed according to the ACR (American Collage of Rheumatology) criteria. Also a control group was included in this study, twenty (20)apparently healthy persons, age and sex matched with patients group . Also this present study deails to estimate the prevalence of antiphospholipid antibodies in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus and their correlation with the presence of systemic lupus erythematosus complications especially pregnancy loss . |
