Abstract Finally, from our experience we may conclude that most of cancer prostate originate from the peripheral zone and less commonly originate from the transition zone . Mostly the lesions appear hypoechoic by transrectal ultrasonography (T.R.U.S) and less likely they may be heterogeneous. Many hypo echoic lesions are histologically benign. Transrectal ultrasonography (T.R.U.S) is able to detect the majority of stage B tumors and all cases in stage C. Some tumors in stage A are missed by T.R.U.S. Thus, we recommend that any patient whose prostatic specific antigen (P.S.A) level exceeds 5 ng./ml. should be biopsied as well to exclude the presence of carcinoma. Transrectal ultrasonography offers remarkably detailed views of intra prostatic anatomy. It’s a useful adjunct to the prostatic specific antigen and digital rectal examination in evaluating patients with cancer prostate. |
