Abstract

The present research work deals with the experimental
and the theoritical behaviour of the compensating capacitor,
connected in parallel to the distribution feeder of the
electric power.
The effect of the compensating capacitor on the active
power loss on the distribution feeder is studied. To
clearify this effect, a distribution feeder is simulated in
the laboratory, to show the effect of changing the
location of the compensating capacitor, on the reduction of
the active power loss on the distribution feeder. Also the
optimal location of the compensating capacitor, that
maximize the reduction of the active power loss on the
distribution feeder

The effect of the changes in the rating of the
compensating capacitor, on the active power loss reduction on
the feeder is also studied.
The change of the equivalent compensation level is
performed experimentally using an inductor and a group of
SCR’s, in parallel with a capacitor.

Connecting the compensating capacitor at the optimal
location, and putting the control circuits at on condition,
the active power loss on the distribution feeder will be
minimum during the 24 hours of operation at any load level.
This thesis is composed of 5 chapters discussing a
modern method of loss reduction on distribution feeder, using
a dynamic compensation closed loop system, which utilizes a
single compensating capacitor, reactor, silicon controlled
rectifiers and a group of control circuits.
Chapter 1 is an introduction to the thesis, discussing
many previous researches that use the capacitor for
compensation in order to reduce the losses
distribution feeder.
Chapter 2 is a review of the previous literatures and
previous works done by many researchers in the field of the
application of the compensating capacitor to reduce the
active power loss on the distribution feeders.
