Abstract Endosonography (EUS) is a new diagnostic procedure. It is more efficient than the endoscopy for determining the status of varices after scleroterapy, where as EUS better demonstrates the thrombosis within the vein. The aim of the work is to assess the efficacy of variceal sclerotherapy by upper gastrointestinal endosonography. 20 patients with bleeding oesaphageal varices proved by previous upper endoscopic examination . Transoesophageal ultrasonographic examination (T.U.S) was done to all patients, then sclerotherapy was performed for certin sessions till complete sclerosis of oesophageal varices then another T.U.S was performed. In this study, 15 out of 20 patients transoesophageal ultrasonography demonstrated varices in, 2 out of 4 paEinets (50%) with endoscopic grade II and III varices and 8 out of 11 patients (73%) with endoscopic grade III and IV varices, All the 5 out of 5 patients (100%) with endoscopic grade IV vances 20 out of 20 patients (100%) showed peri-oesophageal varices |
