Abstract

A heat pipe is a device used for transmitting high thermal power
with a small temperature gradient. In the present work, solar energy
was used as a heat source for the heat pipe flat plate solar coUector
because it is a non-polluting renewable energy source which can be
easily converted and utilized for space and water heating. The use of the
heat pipe as a means of heat transport and removal can improve the overall
elTectiveness of the solar heating systems.
R-12 was used as the working fluid in water heating system by heat
pipe flat plate solar collector . The wick used in the present study was
three layers of wire mesh.
It was found from the present experimental work that the optimum
charging ratio is 50 % of tile evaporator volume.
