Abstract In this study, 208 quarter milk samples were collected from apparently sound udders and examined microbiologically as well as by 6 screening tests to detect any cases of abnormalities. Microbiological examination of the milk samples revealed the presence of mastitis causing microorganisms in 68.27% of the samples (61 .68% of samples collected from buffaloes and 75.25% of samples collected from cows). The most predominant isolated microorganisms were Str. agalactiae, S. aureus, E. coli and Str. dysagalactiae at percentages of 20.42, 17.6, 14.08 and 9. 16% from infected samples, respectively. Also, other microorganisms including other Streptococcus species, coagulase negative Staphylococci, Pseudomonas spp., Micrococci, Klebsiella spp., Enterobacter spp. and Serratia spp. were isolated at percentages of 3.52, 4.93, 3.52, 2.82, 2.82, 1.41 and 0.7%, respectively. |
