Abstract

Productivity in its broadest sense, is general~w-------~
viewed as: ”the best utilization of inputs to attain
.best possible outputs”. Cotton \.7) believes tha~: ”the
pursuit of productivity is the pursuit of all the goals
of the organization”.
The productivity of any firm is an integrated
process which includes a series of steps. These step~
are arranged in an organized Vlay to achieve overwhole
productivity. The proper integration depends mainly on
a proper evaluation, which should be based on a reasonable
way of measurement. Mali [28] stresses on the idee
that productivity must be measured before it might be
improved. He considers that the core of productivity
improvement is its way of measurement. The cycle of
”measurement, evaluation, end integration” is expressed
in the term ANALYSIS as stated in the thesis title.
The traditional way of meastITement of workshops
productivity has been done at the end of each production
period. The information provided by this way of measurement
are usually given at a time which is considered to
be too late for any required corrective action. The
work Vias already completed before it is measured. While
making a prefatory interviewing, one of the executives remarked that, ”the-already established way of measurement
can always tell what is the past performance, but what is
needed to be mown is what will be the expected perfonnance,
to be able to do something about it”.
This work introduces a suggested model for productivity
monitoring which may provide manager with advanced
knowledge that enables him to make the required realloca-
tio~ of resources as a corrective action.
For identifying the intended model, this study is
concerned with the following three questions:
1. What will be measured?
2. How measurement is done?
J. where measurement is done?
The answers of these three questions are used to
determine the main features of the model.
