Abstract

Storage facilities are among the very integral parts of the distribution system. Elevated tanks are used as means of providing head for water distribution systems. During period of low consumption, water is pumped to elevated tanks. During periods of high consumption, the stored water is drawn to augment pumped water. The location is one of the important considerations for the construction of elevated tanks especially if the area fed by the tank is a flat area. In this research work, an area called El-Takreek in New Damietta City is considered as a case study. Two types of scenarios are applied. In the first scenario, fixed demand over the day is used while in the second one, variable demand over the day is used. One elevated tank and two elevated tanks with the same capacity are applied in both scenarios. Pressure head iso- line maps, graphs showing the fluctuation of water levels in the elevated tanks, and some tables introducing the performance of the network. The study resulted in some conclusions and recommendations regarding the tank/ tanks positions and the effects of these positions on
network performance.
