Abstract Studying the Geoengineering Hazards Using Remote Sensing Techniques and its Application on El-Mokattam Area. This thesis presents the geoengineering hazards and their influence on urbanization and planning of new settlement areas at the Southern Upper Plateau of El-Mokattam area in Greater Cairo, Egypt. Remote sensing technique, as a new efficient source of data. is used in this study of limited area where terrain variations become very clear. A link between the geological nature of the study area and its influence on the engineering behavior of the plateau is considered. The main topographic, geomorphic, geologic and structural characteristics of the study area are presented. This is achieved by dividing the area into four zones according to their different characterizing features using topographic maps and aerial photos. This thesis confirms the unfavorable conditions of the southern and southwestern scarps. An extensive fieldwork program for monitoring long-term ground lateral displacements for four drilled boreholes at the Southern Upper Mokattam Plateau is presented. The lateral displacement profiles indicate the very strong relation between the |
