Abstract

The Architecture, Engineering, Construction, and
Facility Management, (AEC/FM) in Egypt has been facing a
high level of competition, to stay competitive in today’s market
place the Egyptian AE/C industry must develop and deploy
Information Technology solutions for planning, designing,
constructing, and managing facilities. To perform these tasks in
the most effective and productive way, identifying the role that
information technology can play and developing solutions that
implement these technologies are the major challenge. In order
to achieve these goals, a study was made on di fferent
construction industry in Egypt, to asset the bottlenecks in existing quality systems, the different use of resources, and the
utilization of time and cost.
A questionnaire was designed and used in the assessment, the
results reveled that applying business process reengineering is
the best way for improving existing Business processes to
adapt the new proposed Framework model.
A new framework process models for automated system
contributed to ISO 10303-225 was designed to be used by
construction industry. The designed process model presented
for the four project phases allow project participants to share
and exchange project information effectively.
An object management system is needed at the design and
construction phases, with the use of software tolls it is easy to
graphically create process maps, identify the resources for
respective tasks, and specifies business policies and exceptions.
Assuming different scenarios for the same process in order to
evaluate and give quick and efficient evaluation of the process
profiles. All information used was taken from a real project at
the National Research Center, the time schedule, the project
resources, and the project cash flow.
Reengineering the organization to adapt this new framework
automated system needs to reduce the number of management
levels, and eliminate boundaries between functions. by
changing the organizational structure.
The Horizontal process oriented organization with the use of
team work, enable construction industry to adapt the new
automated system.
The goal of workflow suite, and the web based solutions for
workflow automation enable construction industry to rapidly
develop sophisticated workflow applications on the web, and relies only on the internet as the primary transport, the use of
the new automated system will result in decreasing the amount
of paper work and documentation procedures to a way that
facilitate the business process, and leads the way for the
construction industry to achieve performance excellence.
