Abstract Methods of analysis of laterally loaded piles may be divided into two main groups the subgrade reaction method and the elastic method In this thesis these two methods have been adopte~ and compared to a case study to verify the validity of each for practical use,and a parametric study has been conducted to show the effect of all relevant parameters. For the subgrade reaction model, a refined.element that realizes soil-pile interaction along the entire length of the pile has been presented using three methods for nonlinear analysis, depending on the type of data available. For the elastic model a more rational model has been presented assuming the soil to be a three-dimensional , elastic material with nonlinear , stess-dependant soil modulus and taking into consideration the effect of soil tension and local yield. A complete set of charts has also been developed to enable the designer to solve any problem of laterally loaded piles with different head, conditions and subjected to several cases of loading in accordance with soil type. |
